An in-depth study of teaching and learning in post-secondary education contexts grounded in current theoretical, research, and pedagogical literatures.

Course Objectives: The purpose of this on-line course is to increase understanding of theoretical and practical knowledge about teaching. This course is intended for those interested in developing skills related to teaching adults in university and college setting. It will provide an opportunity for you to develop practical tools and strategies to take advantage of your strengths and those of your students to optimize learning. This course will utilize a series of readings, self-reflection, on-line discussions, and other exercises.
OPTION 3: Teaching Techniques (15 hours)
Every Wednesday beginning April 25, 2012 - May 23, 2012 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Facilitator: Maggie Ford, Faculty of Medicine
Course Objectives: Good teachers put learning into context as they actively engage their students in the learning process. Acting as facilitators, they guide their learners to achieve their goals through varied active teaching strategies- lectures, small group learning, and questioning. This 15-hour interactive course will introduce participants to the process of developing and delivering courses that are well-planned, well-structured, and actively delivered. Throughout the course, participants will practice and apply these new skills through micro-teach sessions and reflection opportunities. This is a face to face session.
