|You should carry your photo identification (Photo ID) card with you at all times. It is issued when you are first employed and is permanent throughout your time at the University of Manitoba. You may be asked to show identification to building security after office hours.
When your employment with the University of Manitoba ends you may be asked to return your Staff ID card to your unit. If you are retiring you may visit the ID Centre to replace your Staff ID Card with a Retired Staff ID Card.
The Photo ID Card is your library card, it can also be used as a photocopy card at University libraries, as your identification/membership card at University athletic facilities, as a Meal Plan card, and can be programed to provide card access to secure areas.
|If you are unable to access one of these locations during available times you can complete an ID Card Request Form and send it along with a picture to the Registrar’s Office. The photo and signature will be scanned into the ID system and the ID card will be mailed to the address you indicate on the form.|
For most of the year the ID Centre is located in the Registrar’s Office, 400 University Centre, and is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
In the fall of each year a temporary ID Centre will be set up on campus to accommodate the increase of IDs required to be made due to newly admitted students. Typically this temporary ID Centre is in operation during the fall orientation session and/or the first few days of classes, at this time the ID Centre in the Registrar’s Office will be closed. The hours and location of the temporary ID Centre are posted as soon as they are available on the ID Centre website.
Photo IDs can also be obtained at the Neil John MacLean Health Sciences Library located in the Brodie Centre, their hours of operation are:
Monday to Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
During holidays and through the summer the library may be closed or will have shortened hours, the ID centre will close one hour before the Library’s scheduled closing time. Please see the Neil John MacLean Health Sciences Library website for holiday hours and closures.
The magnetic coding on your Photo ID card can be "loaded" with a sum of money so that you can use the card at library photocopying machines or at library microform machines.
Your Photo ID card can be encoded with a cash amount at the cash card manager units in the Elizabeth Dafoe Library, the Albert D. Cohen Management Library, the D.S. Woods Education Library, the Sciences and Technology Library, and the Neil John Maclean Health Sciences Library.
If you have an old ID card with only one magnetic strip, you may exchange it at the ID Centre for a dual striped card at no cost.
The Physical Plant administers the University of Manitoba card access system, which affords access to some areas via staff or student card, allows door locking and unlocking on a predetermined schedule, and provides an audit trail of card swipes.
